Marinas International -Building a Team and a Home

Home ownership is a rite of passage, but for many- it is just a dream that many times seems unattainable. Recently, Marinas International and Joe Funk Construction partnered with Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity to make that dream a reality for a very deserving candidate, Kirby McGee. Kirby is a native of Dallas and works as a processing clerk for the United States Postal Service. She and her eight year old daughter, Skye, were living with family members in Lancaster, Texas. Striving to provide privacy and space for her family, Kirby was motivated to apply for the homebuyers program made possible through Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity.

 

Since incorporation in 1986, Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity and its contributors have served over 1,400 families and revitalized more than 25 neighborhoods. Their dream is not to simply build one home at a time, but to transform and nurture communities where success is only limited by the ability to dream and imagine.

Dallas Habitat has adopted a strategic vision of transforming neighborhoods throughout the most impoverished communities in Dallas County. The vision, called, “Dream Dallas” is one of holistic revitalization in partnership with the Federal government, Dallas County, the City of Dallas, faith-based organizations, other non-profits, and private investors.

Team members from both Joe Funk Construction and Marinas International came together with Habitat’s staff on April 23, 2014 to support that vision. It was an incredible opportunity to enjoy teamwork, fellowship, cooperation and commitment to our neighborhoods and our local families.

The Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity volunteer experience is like no other. It is a tangible result with immediate impact.
